Man arrested after alleged street racing led to driver crashing car into Stobie pole at Mile End South

A man has been arrested after an alleged street racing between vintage cars at Mile End South that saw a driver crash and suffer serious injuries. Police will allege two men were engaged in a street race on London Rd when an orange Plymouth Barracuda hit a Stobie pole and burst into flames about 10.45pm on Saturday.The driver, a 51-year-old Nailsworth man, was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he remained in a serious condition. On Wednesday night, police arrested a 50-year-old Somerton Park man, who was allegedly driving the second vehicle, a 1957 red Chevrolet Belair. He has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to report to police within 90 minutes of a serious injury crash, engaging in a street race and careless driving.
