Heavy rain has caused flooding in parts of Victoria with more than 400 callouts made for emergency help and three rescues due to flash flooding. The State Emergency Service (SES) has responded to 426 calls for help after the rain set in overnight, most of which came in between 5.30am and 11.30am today but has not stopped throughout the afternoon. State Emergency Service operations manager Josh Gamble said it was “disappointing” people continued to drive through dangerous conditions despite warnings. “Responding agencies put our lives and our equipment at risk trying to get to these people,” Mr Gamble said. “It only takes 15cm of water for vehicles to float and cause further risk and/or near drownings so we please recommend people use their common sense to not drive through any form of floodwaters. Two of the rescues were for people trapped in floodwaters in South Melbourne and Bendigo, while the third was for a person who became trapped in their house in Avoca.
