Police have arrested a man after a car was driven down Bourke Street Mall, forcing pedestrians to jump to safety. Detectives arrested the 20-year-old male in Ballarat this afternoon. Police had been searching for the driver of a Mitsubishi Lancer after the car was seen driving down Bourke Street along the tram tracks before crashing into a bollard last Thursday. Police allege a man left the car and ran toward Elizabeth Street after the crash. The driver then allegedly did a U-turn back along Bourke Street towards Swanston Street. The car was later found on Ashworth Street in Albert Park without number plates. The man is assisting police with their inquiries and are no longer searching for anybody else in relation to the incident.
